To kick things off, the instructor introduces the musical alphabet, which consists of the notes A through G: A-B-C-D-E-F-G. Importantly, there are no Z or W notes in this system. Enhancements through sharps (#) and flats (b) are covered, especially the exceptions found between E and F and B and C. Understanding the relationship between these pitches—including enharmonic equivalents, where notes can be named differently but sound the same (e.g., F# and Gb)—is a fundamental concept that sets the stage for more complex theories.
