Part 2/8:
Scales are critical in determining the key of a piece of music, which in turn dictates what notes will resonate harmoniously within a melody. For novice producers, learning to create melodies that sound good is crucial to their development. A common pitfall for beginners is producing melodies that are awkwardly off-key, making scale knowledge indispensable.
What Are Intervals?
Before diving into scales, Mellow D introduces the concept of intervals. An interval is a measurement that helps producers understand the distance between notes on the keyboard.
The two primary types of intervals discussed are:
Half Step (Semitone): The distance from one note to the very next key adjacent to it.
Whole Step (Tone): This represents a distance of two semitones.
