Relative Scales
Mellow D introduces the concept of relative scales—a significant tool for producers to understand. A relative major scale shares the same notes as its minor counterpart but differs in formula. For instance, the C Major scale and A Minor scale use the same notes but provide distinct sound experiences.
To find a relative scale:
From the major scale, to find its relative minor, go down three semitones.
From the minor scale, to find its relative major, go up three semitones.
This knowledge helps in creating complementary melodies or chord progressions.
