Reinstitution of Military Service: The Wehrdienstgesetz 2026
Following the decision to reintroduce conscription, the Bundestag approved a new military service law, marking a significant shift from the suspension of mandatory service 14 years ago. Under the new legislation, young men born in 2008 and later, as well as women, will be subject to mandatory conscription if volunteer numbers fall short.
