Part 1/7:
Understanding Tailings Embankments in Mining Engineering
Mining engineering is a complex field that encompasses various processes, one of which includes the management of mining waste, known as tailings. This article delves into the construction methods employed for tailings embankments, specifically focusing on the Upstream, Downstream, and Center Line construction methods.
What Are Tailings?
Tailings are essentially the byproducts produced from the extraction of valuable minerals, such as gold or oil. The extraction process generates a significant amount of waste, mainly consisting of a mixture of water, soil, and other materials. To manage this waste, mining companies use pipelines to transport it to an impoundment area where it is stored.
