The Center Line construction method combines aspects of both the Upstream and Downstream methods. Starting with a starter dyke, this technique involves placing a drain at its base and discharging tailings behind it. However, instead of building either solely upwards or downwards, the Center Line method allows for a balanced approach, resulting in embankments that are built towards the center.
As a consequence, the Center Line method uses more material than the Upstream method but less than the Downstream method. It provides a compromise between cost and stability, offering a more stable structure while not requiring as much material as the Downstream method.
