The Sphere was moved to what can best be described as a "triage for injured building parts" at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Port Authority took on the significant responsibility of safeguarding remnants from the World Trade Center, aiming to incorporate them into a larger memorial. The challenge was profound: assess the Sphere’s condition and determine what could be salvaged. Questions arose concerning the structural integrity of its internal skeleton and how much of the original sculpture could be restored.
