These plastic particles, coated with metal vapor, are specifically designed to confuse radar systems. In fact, it has been estimated that during the occurrence of the first ghost cloud, several hundred tons of these substances were deployed into the atmosphere, creating a faux rain band that radar systems picked up as a legitimate weather phenomenon.
