Grunier presented two distinct types of mushrooms: the "bedla" (or parasol mushroom) and the "close sec" (referred to as slimy yellow bolete). While the latter doesn’t hold the esteem of finer edible mushrooms, both were harvested within approximately 10 kilometers from his home.
Investigating Radioactive Presence
Grunier's primary objective was to analyze these mushrooms for specific isotopes that are the byproducts of nuclear fission and are typically not found in nature. Among these isotopes, Cesium-137, Strontium-90, and Cobalt-60 were of particular interest due to their bio-toxic properties. He utilized an Android device for data collection, which had been monitoring a nearby reactor (Lion 4) for about 24 hours to gather meaningful results.
