Unbeknownst to passengers aboard Flight 93, strategizing terrorists had already hijacked two other planes and were executing a well-orchestrated plan to attack key targets in the United States. Early phone calls from passengers such as Tom Burnett might have initially sounded calm, but they soon disclosed the gravity of their situation. Startled passengers learned through their phones that the World Trade Center had been struck, realizing their own flight was hijacked.
In the cockpit, the pilots struggled against the hijackers who had gained control. Flight attendants and passengers began a frantic effort to assess their dire straits, each making phone calls to loved ones, delivering last messages of love and courage.
