The cornerstone of this new perspective revolves around what is known as the displacement current—a contentious concept introduced by Maxwell. Heaviside himself acknowledged the ambiguity and lack of understanding surrounding its nature. He identified that the displacement current transforms Maxwell's equations into a model of wave-like behaviors of electric and magnetic fields. However, there are crucial assumptions made by Heaviside and Maxwell regarding how these fields manifest in vacuum conditions, assumptions that I propose need revisiting.
