The technocratic dream proposed an entirely new societal order, grounded in energy consumption metrics rather than traditional currency, which resonated with the oil magnates' penchant for control.
Though technocracy waned after its turbulent rise in the 1930s, its ideas live on, manifesting in contemporary discussions around carbon credits, energy rationing, and climate change policies which—under the veneer of ecological sustainability—promote elitist control over global resources.
