The maid and her husband took Anne on outings, during which she met numerous children, many of whom were from the Netherlands. This confusion around her social environment sowed the seeds of her future entrapment. Anne was gradually introduced to the network, which she later learned had connections to powerful individuals, including high-ranking politicians and aristocrats.
