The submarine, often considered one of New Westminster’s classic oddities, has drawn attention for its unusual location and quirky design. Nestled within the living space of the captain, it posed unique challenges for anyone brave enough to step inside. As Captain Hutchison described, the claustrophobic conditions made it “basically impossible to move around.”
The installation includes various components emblematic of a naval vessel, such as radar systems, control centers, and even a kitchen—which, regrettably, has seen little use in recent years. The captain has resorted to dining at a shopping mall food court, indicating a certain level of detachment from his maritime endeavor.
