The sensitive element of the gyro compass is primarily a gyroscope rotor, designed to possess three degrees of freedom, akin to the model gyroscope. While the model is powered through manual force, like a string, the gyro compass employs a three-phase, 210-cycle, 50-volt current. It takes about 10 minutes for the rotor to reach its intended rotational speed. The design includes a vertical ring that allows for horizontal freedom of movement, acutely mirroring the model's capabilities.
