To ensure stability and minimize resistance, the compass incorporates compensator weights attached to the vertical ring, which balances the system in both the north-south and east-west planes. Despite the gyro compass's high directive force—150 times that of a magnetic compass—overcoming the friction of traditional supports would be infeasible. Therefore, a phantom ring is introduced to provide a frictionless mounting solution, further enhancing the compass's accuracy.
