Part 2/8:
When testing diodes, it's crucial to understand how to properly connect the probes. The black probe should be on the negative (stripe) side of the diode, aligning with the cathode. Using a digital multimeter, the presenter demonstrates how to determine whether a diode is functioning correctly, noting that some diodes—particularly germanium types—may show a short circuit reading on a multimeter calibrated primarily for silicon diodes. For example, a germanium diode often exhibits a voltage drop around 0.4 volts, differing from silicon diodes, which typically have around 0.6 volts.
