A crucial aspect of this procedure is keeping the clamps attached throughout the entire cooling process, which lasts for at least an hour after the wax has solidified. During cooling, the wax may expand slightly and then contract, exerting pressure on the plates. The clamps prevent any movement that could lead to misalignment or internal shorts.
The engineer warns that if the plates shift or become misaligned during this phase, the entire process must be restarted from the beginning, as the integral structure of the capacitor depends on the plates remaining fixed within the wax.
