Quantitative Observations: Timing and Results
Throughout the experiment, Paul meticulously records the timing of the magnets' descent:
Initial six-foot copper tube: ~20 seconds
With added two shorter tubes (total length now 16 feet): ~30 seconds
With all three tubes in place (total length about 21 feet): ~40 seconds
The dramatic increase in fall time exemplifies how eddy currents and magnetic damping can be manipulated by altering the conductive pathway.
