Variations in Coil Design and their Effects
Changing the Number of Windings:
Paul compares coils with different numbers of windings and wire gauges. A coil with fewer windings (250 turns of gauge 22 wire, diameter 0.025 inches) shows an increased levitation height, bouncing up to around 2 inches. The reduced number of windings lowers resistance and heats faster, but it allows more current flow, boosting the magnetic field strength.
Higher Resistance Coils:
Another coil with 340 windings exhibits similar or slightly reduced levitation heights than the previous one, hinting that more turns increase resistance and heat, eventually hampering performance.
