A core part of the experiment involves bringing a secondary coil close to the primary coil and observing the effects. The secondary coil, wound with six turns of wire, is connected through a diode to a capacitor and an assortment of components. By positioning this coil over the primary, Paul demonstrates that the voltage (or energy) is transferred magnetically without direct current flow, evidenced by the disappearance of a neon bulb in the secondary circuit when the coils are coupled.
