The motor's bearings were well-oiled, and centrifugal force aided in smooth operation. When energized, the gear attached to the motor—constructed from stainless steel—turned seamlessly, moving the entire targeting assembly, including binoculars and calibration dials.
Restoration and System Functionality
Beyond the motor, the system's switches, lights, and fuse holders were inspected and replaced where necessary. All switches were cleaned, lubricated, and tested, operating smoothly without sticking or failure. Vintage snap switches, styled from navy equipment, were replaced with functional equivalents, maintaining the historical integrity of the system.
