Motivated by this event, the storyteller pursued the cannon, eventually purchasing it for $200—a surprisingly modest sum for such a hefty military artifact. His intention was to preserve, study, and perhaps restore it. Over the years, he meticulously disassembled various parts, including the sighting mechanisms, traverse and elevation systems, and associated electronics housed in cast aluminum and brass casings.
His efforts involved coordinating with local taxi services and trucking companies to transport the heavy components, which he stored in his home basement. This painstaking work was motivated not only by personal interest but also by a desire to preserve military history.
