Under different lighting, it became apparent that the crack might be raised slightly, though I am uncertain whether this is due to a manufacturing anomaly or some form of crystallization or corrosion over the years. There was no other visible damage or hit marks, which rules out accidental dents. I recall acquiring this piece around 2000, from an RCMP officer, and I tend to scrutinize such items meticulously before considering any purchase.
Despite the initial concern, I hope this crack isn’t a structural weakness or damage that could compromise the rifle's integrity. I’ve always maintained these pieces in special containers, carefully oiling and guarding them against deterioration.
