The narrator begins by sharing an intriguing discovery: objects that appear old and rusty upon initial glance can, in fact, be surprisingly well-preserved internally. Upon closer inspection, what initially looks like decay often turns out to be dried-out grease, rather than rust or corrosion. In one case, a mechanical part appeared quite worn, but a simple wipe-down with WD-40 revealed that it was just dried grease, not rust, and the part was still solid and functional.
