Part 3/8:
One of the most impressive aspects of Rd's work is his custom fabrication of the back piece of the radio. Missing from the original design, this component houses the RF filter and numerous interconnections essential for the radio's operation. Using half-inch aluminum plates and eighth-inch aluminum sheet, Rd crafted a sturdy backing. Unique touches like hockey pucks serve as mounting points or cushioning, ensuring stability during use.
He developed an aluminum rail system that allows the back cover to slide with ease—an elegant solution balancing form and function. To maintain alignment, he fashioned all-new pins that fit into existing slots, a meticulous effort that exemplifies his attention to detail.
