The project began with the recognition that the RDS lacked its original backplate. The enthusiast emphasized the importance of this component, as all their work was integrated into the back of the device. To restore structural integrity and reliability, they crafted a substantial aluminum backplate, emphasizing durability and a military-grade approach reminiscent of naval engineering standards.
The addition of the backplate was just the start; shock mounts were implemented using hockey pucks, a common vintage electronics trick due to their excellent shock absorption qualities. These mounts helped isolate the delicate internal components from vibrations and mechanical shocks, safeguarding the circuitry.
