Part 2/7:
Originally, the lathe was powered by a three-phase motor, which allowed it to operate smoothly. However, over time, the motor gave out, causing interruptions in operation. Additionally, a flame-out on one of the drum switches necessitated troubleshooting and repairs. The owner successfully cleaned and restored the electrical switch, ensuring better reliability.
Upgrading the Power System
To bring the lathe back to operational status, a new power setup was installed. The existing system was converted from three-phase to single-phase, utilizing a 110-volt supply suitable for typical workshop outlets. The motor currently installed is in the lower part of the machine, but it isn't yet connected to the original Worthington All Drive system, which was designed for more robust operation.
