Part 11/15:
For example, a ship seen from the shore first reveals its superstructure, and as it moves farther, the hull disappears. This pattern is explained well by curvature: the bottom of the ship drops below the horizon, not by atmospheric effects or perspective distortion alone.
The Role of Earth's Curvature in Long-Distance Observation
One of the clearest pieces of evidence is the Blackpool Tower photograph taken from nearly 47 miles away. According to Earth's curvature, over 5,900 feet (around 1 mile) of the tower should be hidden behind the horizon; yet, a portion of the tower is visible.
