Earth's twilight phases are often overlooked but are crucial in understanding the claim’s validity. As the Sun sets or rises:
Civil Twilight (when the Sun is within 6 degrees of the horizon): The sky remains brightly lit.
Nautical Twilight (Sun 6-12 degrees below horizon): The horizon is still visible at sea; some ambient light persists.
Astronomical Twilight (Sun 12-18 degrees below horizon): The sky darkens considerably but residual sunlight still exists.
During these phases, the sky remains illuminated, and some sunlight still reaches regions not directly facing the Sun. This means that even areas in apparent "darkness" are still receiving indirect sunlight reflected or refracted in Earth's atmosphere.
