All objects in the galaxy are generally traveling in the same direction: reducing relative displacement.
Time scales are long: Earth's daily, yearly, and even millennia-long shifts in star positions are negligible when considering their enormous separation.
Stellar motions are slow relative to their distance: even traveling at hundreds of thousands of miles per hour through the galaxy, the difference in position for distant stars over human lifespan is imperceptible.
