The Soviet Union, NASA’s Cold War competitor, attempted lunar missions but faced technical setbacks and limited success with their unmanned Zond program. By the time NASA achieved manned Moon landings, the Soviets shifted focus due to technical difficulties and diminishing strategic incentives.
Other countries like China, India, and the European Space Agency have shown increasing interest in lunar exploration but lack the massive resources that NASA or the former Soviet Union mobilized during the 1960s and 70s. Sending humans to the Moon remains an expensive, large-scale venture—one that only a few nations can realistically undertake at this point.
