This alarming growth rate is coupled with a range of environmental concerns. The extraction and processing of the raw materials are energy-intensive and release substantial pollutants. Additional issues include microplastic pollution, large landfill contributions, toxic chemical leaching during production, and potential social and ecological fallout from manufacturing processes.
