Part 6/10:
Symbolism in the Rituals
The act of circumambulation, or Tawaf, is rich in symbolism. It is often interpreted as a reflection of how creation revolves around God or mirrors cosmic movements, such as the Earth's orbit around the Sun. Seven is significant in Islamic cosmology, often associated with the seven heavens, embodying completion and perfection.
Most importantly, Tawaf is performed because it was conducted by the Prophet Muhammad, in line with God's command. During this ritual, pilgrims encounter several important areas, such as Multazam, where they cling to the wall and pray, and the Station of Abraham, believed to bear the imprints of his feet.
