Over recent years, the Linux ecosystem has been abuzz with talk of a significant transition – moving from the long-standing X11 display server to Wayland. Major desktop environments like KDE and GNOME have announced plans to phase out support for X11, with KDE officially dropping support for X11 in favor of Wayland. This shift has been portrayed as inevitable, with most Linux distributions opting to ship with Wayland as the default display server. Distributions like Fedora have been supporting Wayland by default for nearly a decade, with Fedora making the switch as early as 2016.
