Instruments of the Medieval Era
The instruments of the medieval period can be viewed as the ancestors to many modern instruments. Key families of instruments prevalent at this time included:
Strings: Instruments such as the harp, vielle (a precursor to the modern violin and cello), and the lute, which bears a resemblance to today’s guitar.
Percussion: Elements of percussion have remained relatively unchanged. Instruments like drums, bells, and cymbals were widely used.
