Part 3/12:
Ambassador Jameson Greer described the move as "nothing more than a global supply chain power grab." China’s new rules stipulate that any product in which more than 0.1% of minerals originate from or are processed in China requires approval from the Chinese government before it can be traded internationally. Given that semiconductors and many other critical components contain these minerals, this rule effectively grants China control over the global supply chain, potentially affecting everything from consumer electronics like smartphones and household appliances to defense-related manufacturing.
