During the 2020 U.S. election, AI-driven censorship was used to suppress dissent on a massive scale—labeling and removing millions of tweets related to election integrity concerns.
However, recently, efforts by tech companies and government agencies to leverage AI for censorship have been constrained. Elon Musk’s modifications to Twitter’s API, reducing access and raising costs, temporarily “depowered” the AI censorship superweapon, preventing real-time mass censorship.
