The initial challenge was that, even with rain guards installed on the vehicle's CRV, the window could only be lowered about an inch before opening a crack, which was insufficient for proper airflow and not rainproof. This limited the effectiveness of passive ventilation and prompted the creator to craft a custom solution.
To begin, they made a prototype by tracing the window dimensions onto cardboard. Recognizing the small size of the opening, they considered using a computer fan to draw in more air. However, the transparent plastic they tested allowed light to pass through, compromising stealth. This realization led them to design and build a snorkel-like intake system.
