Part 2/10:
Tarad’s walk takes him to the inn, where he hopes to borrow a copper to garner a friendly smile from the innkeeper and perhaps a generous meal. However, unexpectedly, he confronts Dabasir, the tall, lean camel trader—an acquaintance from whom he owes money. Dabasir’s exuberance and straightforwardness remind Tarad of his own failures to repay debts. Dabasir, eager to retrieve the small sums he lent months ago, urges Tarad to find the money, pushing the young man to feel both shame and discomfort.
Despite the exchange, Dabasir’s hospitality persists; he invites Tarad into an eating house, where the two sit on small rugs while Dabasir orders a hearty meal. Throughout, Dabasir recounts tales and shares insights, engaging Tarad not only as a friend but as a wise storyteller.
