Part 10/12:
Despite its grandeur, Babylon’s glory waned over centuries. Repeated sieges by conquering armies, internal decay, and the relentless quarrying of its bricks for local construction left the city in ruins. Now a windswept desert of scattered ruins, Babylon’s once-magnificent walls and temples are mostly gone, submerged under centuries of dust and sand.
The city's decline was accelerated when Persia’s Cyrus the Great entered Babylon, not by siege but through diplomatic deception, leading to its surrender and ultimate abandonment. Though no longer a thriving metropolis, Babylon’s cultural and technological achievements continue to influence history profoundly.
