Part 2/17:

This fragmented view of the psyche is exemplified by experiments such as those conducted on split-brain patients by neuroscientist Gazanaga (or Gazanaga). When the corpus callosum—the structure connecting the brain’s hemispheres—is severed, the two halves of the brain can act independently, sometimes even holding separate conscious experiences. Gazanaga demonstrated that one hemisphere could be told something without the other knowing, revealing that consciousness can be somewhat divided and that parts of ourselves can be aware of differing truths simultaneously. This suggests that within each person, there are fragments—"low-resolution" representations or "one-eyed giants," as the psychoanalyst might say—that carry their own impulses, biases, and perceptions.
