After the DOJ intervened, Judge Mehta was compelled to reassess his prior decisions. He acknowledged that he had acted impulsively and that his limitations on the defendants were not legally justifiable. The judge's order, initially banning the defendants from entering D.C., was vacated just three days after it was issued. In his reevaluation, he acknowledged that by commuting the sentences, it would be inappropriate for the court to modify those sentences or impose restrictions thereafter.
