Furthermore, the notion that the federal government can declare the entire interstate highway system a self-driving zone is equally meaningless. The federal authorities have no control over state or local self-driving laws, and any attempt to do so would likely result in legal challenges that the federal government would ultimately lose.
While the concept of an "Elon premium" on Tesla's stock is intriguing, the reality is that the company deserves the premium. Musk's influence on the President to scrap the tax credits will make it more challenging for legacy automakers to compete with Tesla. We'll soon see how well the electric divisions of these traditional automakers can handle the end of these tax credits, with GM potentially faring better than Ford in this regard.
