EV Makers Plead to Save Federal Tax Credit
EV makers and battery companies are urging the Trump Administration not to eliminate the federal EV tax credit. The Zero Emission Transportation Association, which represents companies like Rivian, Tesla, Uber, Lucid, and Panasonic, says the tax credits have helped grow jobs in Republican-leaning states and ending them would hurt job growth. The group also argues the credits help the U.S. "compete to win against China."
The Trump Administration is reportedly planning to get rid of the $7,500 tax credit for purchasing an EV, but may keep incentives for battery production since most factories are located in states that voted Republican. Building factories creates jobs, which aligns with Trump's focus on job creation.
