Stag films, featuring hardcore intercourse and penetration, began circulating in underground "stag party" screenings in the early 1900s. By the 1970s, the release of the landmark film "Deep Throat" brought pornography into the mainstream, with the movie becoming a cultural phenomenon and earning an estimated $4.2 billion in today's dollars.
The home video revolution of the 1980s and the rise of the internet in the 1990s and 2000s further democratized the production and consumption of pornography. This led to the proliferation of amateur and user-generated content, as well as the rise of issues like revenge porn and deepfakes.
