The hacking efforts are largely attributed to groups linked to China's Ministry of State Security, a counterpart to the CIA and FBI in the United States. These advanced persistent threats have been a point of contention for years, executing numerous cyberattacks targeting U.S. and allied infrastructures since at least 2020. Operating under various names, including Ghost Emperor, Famous Sparrow, and lately, Salt Typhoon, their main objective appears to be gathering intelligence.
