Recognizing the European demand for high-quality plug-in hybrids, Chinese manufacturers opted to shift focus. Many believe that their hybrids outperform existing European models, and as such, they are now positioning hybrids as a viable entry point into the European market. This pivot comes at a time when the European Union has begun its tariff implementations, with the potential for tariffs on hybrids appearing less daunting comparatively.
This approach appears to be a masterstroke on the part of Chinese automakers, as they anticipate that demand for hybrids will open up avenues for sales without incurring high tariff penalties or extensive bureaucratic hurdles.
