Megalania: The Giant Monitor Lizard
The Megalania (or Megalania prisca) was the largest lizard known to have existed. This formidable predator could grow to lengths of up to 5 meters and weigh around 575 kilograms. A carnivorous beast, the Megalania employed ambush tactics to prey on everything from large mammals to other reptiles. Its sharp, backward-curving teeth and toxic saliva were lethal, rendering it a fearsome adversary on the ancient Australian terrain.
