Part 4/9:
Evolving Strategies and Reduced Targets
In response to lackluster sales forecasts, several automakers have begun to retreat from ambitious EV production targets. Volvo has recently abandoned its previous goal of transitioning to an all-electric lineup by 2030, while Ford has also scaled back its commitments in Europe. Toyota has reconsidered its production increase plans for battery electric vehicles, favoring a multi-pathway strategy that aligns with consumer demand.
Volkswagen, Nissan, and Hyundai are among other manufacturers pivoting towards hybrids due to declining demand for fully electric vehicles. Dealers have pointed out that sluggish sales are partially linked to the scarcity of affordable EV models, inadequate charging infrastructure, and poor resale values.
